Choose the right scope
Section titled “Choose the right scope”| Section | Controls |
|---|---|
| Appearance | The application theme and visual preferences. |
| Editor | Writing and document presentation preferences. |
| Workspace | Personal workspace behavior. |
| New project defaults | Reusable choices for future project creation. |
| Connections | Existing Codex and GitHub tool/account connections. |
| Tools | Local executable and runtime configuration, including WebView2 checks. |
These are application preferences and local defaults. To change an existing game’s engine binding, repository configuration or target, open its Project settings.
Changing a new-project default does not silently rewrite existing game projects. Selecting a tool path does not install or license that tool.
Connections
Section titled “Connections”GDE uses the installed providers’ account mechanisms. Inspect the connection state and follow the provider’s sign-in or setup path when needed. A connection being available does not establish that every repository or engine action is authorized.
Keep credentials with their providers. Do not paste tokens into a design page or a portable project file.
Missing renderer
Section titled “Missing renderer”Some document and visual surfaces need the Evergreen WebView2 Runtime. Tools → WebView2 Runtime can recheck it and open Microsoft’s official download page. Install the runtime explicitly, then reopen GDE. This also matters for PDF export.
Diagnose a problem
Section titled “Diagnose a problem”Use the application’s diagnostic report when a failure needs investigation. Inspect the report before sharing it. Include the operation you attempted and whether the problem affects one project or every project; the troubleshooting page lists the supported recovery paths.
